The
Samana Peninsula or simply known as Samana, is an exquisite destination in
Dominican Republic made for nature lovers and adventure enthusiasts. It is
abundant in lush green mountains that are covered in coconut trees. Moreover,
Samana also has a long stretch of pristine beaches of fine white sands combined
with the turquoise blue water. Under the waters of Samana beaches is where the
brightly-colored marine life, spiny lobsters and stunning coral reefs lie. The
beach of Samana is the major attraction of the region and had been a great
tourist destination for over forty years. It was the most beautiful land on the
face of the Earth then (according to Christopher Columbus) and it is still
loveliest part of Hispaniola Island until now. Because of the natural
magnificence of Samana, it is currently recognized as the jewel in the crown of
Dominican Republic.
There's no doubt that Samana has a booming tourism industry all year-round. It
can be visited any time of the year since Dominican Republic usually has a
tropical weather. You can hardly tell that the island is currently having its
wet season. The rain generally passes quickly, overlapped by the Caribbean
summer months. However, during the month of May till the month of November, the
whole Dominican Republic is prone to tropical storms and hurricanes. The average
temperature in Samana is around 80 degrees but it can reach up to 90 degrees
during the hottest hour of the day.
Samana
has an outstanding national park called Cabo Cabron National Park. It is located
in the northeastern part of the region. Cabo Cabron is somehow difficult to
access either by land or by water. Therefore, it is one of the most remote and
unspoiled parts of Dominican Republic. This is a great place to hike the trails
and do some horseback riding activities. The top of the national park is 360
feet above the wild ocean giving you a breathtaking view of the water, the
island and the lush forests. The government of Dominican Republic does not allow
any establishment to be built in Cabo Cabron National Park except for privately
owned properties. Another national park visited by many in Samana is the Los
Haitises National Park. It is situated in the western part of the Samana Bay.
The main attractions of the park are the rock carvings, giant mangrove trees and
of course, the ancient caves with the drawings of the Taino Indians in it.
Many water activities can be done here in Samana. Locals and tourists are very
fond of exploring the treasures of Samana under its deep and shallow water dives.
Not only that they would get close to the coral reefs but they may visit the
sunken ships at the Las Galeras Bay as well. There are also caves hidden under
the waters of Samana waiting to be explored. Many divers are fascinated in the
huge cliff face in Cabo Samana. This is one of the diving areas that is very
challenging even for professional divers.
